"HEATH--AN APPRECIATION"
He was a "Down Under" birth
It happened in Perth
(Land of the hairy possum!
Which, like Mr. Ledger, is awesome)
Heath's your typical Aussie:
Adventurous, saucy
Jovial, brave,
A likable knave
His prescient parents must have known if
They gave their child the name of Heathcliff
It might one day become a factor
In his decision to be an actor
And some day I hope Heath WILL set his sights
On playing his namesake in "Wuthering Heights"
And as for the movies he's actually made
Each one shows Heath's rich talent displayed
Each film also shows varied facets of him:
A Knight's Tale, Four Feathers, The Brothers Grimm,
Ned Kelly, The Patriot, Monster's Ball
Heath was impressive in them all
Low-key yet volcanic, broody yet ingratiating
Mixtures of moods which make this actor fascinating
Who else could play both Casanova of Venice
And a tormented Wyoming cowboy named Ennis?
Oh Lord! His performance in Brokeback Mountain!
Heath broke many hearts, in the millions and countin'
Even those who already thought Heath a star
Were wowed anew by his Ennis Del Mar
A man who was freed yet constricted by love
This is acting that movie icons are made of
Talent, looks, brains, nerve, Heath has it all
Like his co-star and off-screen "mate," Jake Gyllenhaal
And the depth and range shown by these men of young years
Ensures that they'll have legendary careers.

Heath Ledger, in his choice of roles, was motivated above all by curiosity, and perhaps also by an impatience with the predictability and caution that can settle around the shoulders of talented young stars

Happy Ever After In Your Eyes
Written by Ben Harper, for Friend Heath Ledger's new baby, Matilda
--------------------------------
"The morning sunrise spread her wings
While the moon hung in the sky
Held the sea in your hands
And happy everafter in your eyes
Couldn't leave you to go to heaven
I carry you in my smile
For the first time my true reflection I see
Happy everafter in your eyes
Every star in the night
Promises the dawn
I will be there if you fall
To ever so heavily rest upon
All that I can give you
Is forever yours to keep
Wake up every day with a dream
And happy ever after in your eyes
Happy everafter is in your eyes"

I will remember you whenever
I see a sunrise or a sunset...
I will remember you whenever
I see the brightest star...
I will remember you whenever
I see a rainbow, or woods in
Autumn colors, from afar...
And remember...
I'll be remembering you!

His death, at a painfully young 28, robbed the worlds of film and theatre of a burgeoning talent, a serious-minded star who, with Brokeback Mountain, had proved he had it in him to become the consistent equal of such peers as Blanchett and Christian Bale. We will miss him especially for what he might have been.

In February 2008, at the Berlin Film Festival, a documentary film debuted in the European market called Dark Tracks. It's the true story of Martin Day and Dave Burnett, the men behind modern surfing. In 1970's aboard their ship, The Indie Trader, these surfing pioneers discovered the best waves in Bali and Indonesia. To bankroll their surfing lifestyle, these modern day pirates spent off hours on smuggling missions.
Nowdays, these free-spirited men are members of the reputable surfing establishment, and use their boat to taxi surfing's hottest talent out to discover unchartered waves. But their main mission, sponsered by Quicksilver, is to record uncharter waters in order to protect them for future generations of sportsmen.
Dark Tracks tells the story of a dynamic mix of unique and roguish men, the women who loved them, and the sport that changed their lives.
Narrated by Heath Ledger, the film was released in Germany and the European market in 2008. A U.S. release date is pending, but it will premiere at CineVegas. The US working title is currently "Sea of Darkness".

Heath Ledger
He was an actor, that's what he wanted to be
Not a heartthrob, not just eye candy
He was a knight, a skateboarded, a patriot
Name the hardest role you can, he could do it
He showed how deep he could be
By becoming an Oscar nominee
In Brokeback Mountain he pushed the envelope
When he played a gay man trying to cope
He had so many roles, portrayed so many characters
Like in The Order when he solved mysterious murders
Soon Batman will know him as a villain
He burst on the screen as the legendary Bob Dylan
He is the James Dean of my time
What I can do for him now is give him this rhyme
To show that this man earned my respect
You'll be hearing about him for years I expect
He'll be remembered; a knight, a soldier, a villain, a folk singer
His face on the screen will forever linger

"Heaven Was Needing a Hero"
I came by today to see you
I just had to let you know
If I knew the last time that I held you was the last time
I'd have held you, and never let go
Oh, it's kept me awake nights, wondering
I lie in the dark, just asking why
I've always been told
You won't be called home
Until it's your time
I guess heaven was needing a hero
Somebody just like you
Brave enough to stand up
For what you believe
And follow it through
When I try to make it make sense in my mind
The only conclusion I come to
Is heaven was needing a hero
Like you
I remember the last time I saw you
Oh, you held your head up proud
I laughed inside
When I saw how you were standing out in the crowd
Your such a part of who I am
Now that part will just be void
No matter how much I need you now
Heaven needed you more
Cause heaven was needing a hero
Somebody just like you
Brave enough to stand up
For what you believe
And follow it through
When I try to make it make sense in my mind
The only conclusion I come to
Is heaven was needing a hero
Like you
Yes, Heaven was needing a hero
and that's you

"If only I could stop the clock and turn back the hands of time,
To a moment when your eyes looked into our's
If only I could walk once more on a sandy beach and see you,
Holding hands with michelle and Matilda the way you used to do.
If only they could lie again in the warmth of your embrace,
To feel your tender kisses and breath upon their faces .
You were always there beside us through the laughter and the tears,
You made us feel so special and soothed away our fears.
I have asked God to give us strength to face the days alone,
To help us heal our broken hearts and mend our shattered souls.
our lifes will never be the same without you by our side,
Grief almost too much to bear, pain difficult to hide.
But when we look into the sky for the brightest star above,
the fan's will send you all our love."

ARIA-winning rapper and friend Nfa Forster-Jones said the actor wanted to make art beyond movies.

It is hard to know exactly when Mr. Ledger discovered his range, and set about trying to explore it, but it is clear that he covered a lot of ground in a very short time

Heath Ledger had an unusual ability to mix lightness and gravity, an emotional nimbleness he displayed most fully in Todd Haynes’s “I’m Not There.” Of the six avatars of Bob Dylan in that film, his, an actor named Robbie Clark, is the most remote from Mr. Dylan’s various personae and closest to the prosaic world of love, fame and ambition. Robbie starts out full of youthful energy, heedless and in love, and finds himself a decade later adrift and disappointed, robbed of the happiness that early success had seemed to promise.

He was the most likable of the young things in the “Taming of the Shrew”-derived teenage comedy “10 Things I Hate About You,” with his curly hair, high forehead and the permanent intimation of a smirk on his thin-lipped, angled mouth. And as often happens with young actors in Hollywood, his good looks and easy charm looked like a ticket to the commercial big time. Dutifully, but also with sparks of playful, eager energy, he played period golden boys in “The Patriot” and “A Knight’s Tale,” a misbegotten (but not entirely unenjoyable) entry in the ever-silly costume-action genre.
